With the weather being hot and muggy, you are probably feeling the heat and miserable. However, this type of weather is perfect for crops. I spoke with Kent Ganzer from Cyclone Seed and Chemical and he explained, “Corn and soybeans… spots drowned out.” Kent talked about what they have been looking for the last few days, “Some things we’ve… corn leaf blade.” Kent talked about the aphids in soybeans, “Hopefully the aphids…extra aerial application on the soybeans.” The weather pattern continues to look good for the crops with temperatures in the high 80’s for the weekend.

Westfair has seen plenty of excitement so far and it keeps going today with more attractions. This morning the 4Hers will be out in full force with the sheep, goat, poultry and Dog Shows. The all new Bengal tigers along with Wildlife Wendy and her Tropical birds begin the afternoon excitement. The wood carvers will be out all day making sculptures. Tonight the 7th annual Girls Just Wanna Have Fun concert will be in the Amphitheater and in the arena starting at 7 will be the ATV/Motorcycle Horseshoe races.

The Iowa Lottery hit an all time record in payouts in their last fiscal year. June 30th was the end of the 2010 year for the Iowa Lottery. The Iowa Lottery gave out over 150 million dollars in prize money in the past year. The figures also showed Iowa Lottery sales were 256 million dollars which is the second highest ever in the history of the Iowa Lottery.

The Shelby County Emergency Management Office wants to remind you that the one mile section from Ironwood Road to Juniper Road is closed for bridge repairs. The work has begun and the Emergency Management Office is hoping to be done in 2 weeks along as the weather cooperates.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has removed the ban of swimming in Prairie Rose State Park Lake. The bacteria levels have fallen to the point where the IA DOT is allowing swimmers to get back in the water.
