Missing since Friday afternoon, May 9th - 2 miles north of Harlan, between old and new Highway 59 - a female burgundy Golden Retriever wearing an orange and blue plaid collar. Medium sized dog - about 6 months old - Has a small square shaped face. Her name is "Lucy" but does not always come to that name. Call 755-3198.

The Shelby County Food Pantry needs donations. Donations can be made year-round at the West Central Development Office at 516 Market Street in Harlan. Some of the items that can be donated include

Canned soup - large cans are needed badly, Pancake mix and syrup, Cereal, Chili Beans, Macaroni and Cheese, Instant Mashed Potatoes, Powdered Milk, Hamburger Helper, Complete "Box" Meals such as Campbell's, Flour, Sugar, Canned fruits and vegetables, Canned potatoes and yams, jelly and pasta sauces.

MidStates Bank in Harlan is now selling tickets for their Relay for Life Raffle. Tickets can be bought at the bank or at the MidStates Relay for Life Tent on June 6th. The Avoca Rotary Club has rescued chairs, stools, benches and desks from barns, basements and sheds, and has turned them into whimsical works of art. There are 26 decorated chairs up for auction May 15th through July 4th. They will be displayed at area businesses so stop by and place your bids. Proceeds will help support local education needs and the Rotary Foundation.

The 58th annual Audubon Flight Breakfast, sponsored by the Audubon Chamber of Commerce, will be held 6:30 am to 10:30 am, at the Audubon County Airport. There will be a free breakfast to all fly-ins. The round trip is about 30 miles. There will be a bike ride starting at 8 am, followed by a chicken dinner at the church from 11 to 2. The cost is $10 for all you can eat!

The Huff 'n Puffers Bike Club will meet at the Pioneer Park Shelter at 7:30 am, Sunday, July 13th, and head to Prairie Rose State Park for their annual Club Breakfast that will start around 9 am. Meet at the shelter house on top of the hill west of the Park Rangers Station. Food and drinks will be provided.

RAGBRAI XXXVI will be held July 20th through 26th. They will leave Missouri Valley on Sunday, July 20th, and arrive in Harlan for an overnight stay.

The Carson, Iowa Rodeo will be held Thursday, July 31st through Saturday, August 2nd, with performances starting at 8 pm each evening. The rodeo parade is Saturday, August 2nd, at 10:30 am.
Friday, August 8th
The Persia 125th Celebration will be held Friday, August 8th through Sunday August 10th. It's 3 big days of fun with dances, a parade, softball tournament, tractor pull, games and rides, the alumni banquet and dance, a chicken dinner, combine demo derby, raffles and more.
Saturday, August 23rd
The Jammin' "poker" Ride V will be held, starting at 8 am, Saturday, August 23rd, in conjunction with "Jammin On The Square". Ride starta on the south side of the Shelby County Courthouse. Choose either a 20, 30, or 40 mile bike ride.
Saturday, September 13th
The Harrison and Shelby Counties Alzheimer's Memory Walk will be held Saturday, September 13th, at Pioneer Park in Harlan.
