Crazy Ending Gives Woodbine Win Over Tri-Center, 3-1 -

(6-28-22) – An exciting pitcher's dual ends on an unusual error.

Tri-Center and Woodbine engaged in an interconference contest Tuesday that was a 1-0 affair going into the bottom of the 6th when a 3-run outburst by the Tigers would lift them to a 3-1 win over the Trojans in their first ever meeting, according to Varsity Bound.

The final out of the game would be recorded due to Tri-Center batting out of order.

Woodbine pitcher Carter Gruver would score the winning run for the Tigers on a wild pitch. Gruver was brilliant on the mound allowing just 3 hits and allowing one unearned run over 7 innings with 7 K’s. He talked to KNOD SPORTS about his performance.

"I've been coached from Little League on just to throw strikes, let my D do the work and that's what I did."

Woodbine scored 3 times in the 6th on an error and two wild pitches by Sean McGee who was outstanding for the most part but seemed to tire as the game went on. McGee had 10 strikeouts in 6 innings of work, but had a lot of traffic on the base paths in the first 5 innings as Woodbine would leave 7 runners on base including 5 in the first 2 innings.

Tri-Center would score their only run of the game on error at first. Michael Turner led off the 4th with a single, advanced to 2nd on a throwing error, and stole 3rd, where he'd score on a two-out ground out by Isaac Wohlhutter that was dropped by the 1st baseman.

Tri-Center, a Class 1A State Qualifier a season ago, has now dropped 5 of 7 and are 16-5 on the season. Woodbine improves to 18-4 with the win.
