Cyclone Sonderman Commits to UNI for XC, Track –

(11-20-24) – A Cyclone is running her way to Cedar Falls.

Harlan Community cross country and track star Lindsey Sonderman signed her letter of intent to the University of Northern Iowa on Wednesday. For Sonderman, it was an easy decision.

“I knew that I wanted to continue running in college and UNI just seemed like the perfect place when I visited. I love the team atmosphere there, so I decided to that’s where I wanted to go.”

Sonderman recently finished 4th overall at the Class 3A State Cross Country meet in Fort Dodge with a time of 18:29.3, leading her team to a 6th place overall finish. She will compete for Cyclone girls’ track this season, where she finished 7th in the 3000m & 1500m runs at State back in May.

Being a part of these Cyclone teams has greatly impacted how Sonderman sees her future.

“I started my life not ever thinking I would be a runner, so the fact that I want to keep running in college shows that I’ve really had a great time running here at Harlan. I’m very thankful for everything that they’ve done for me.”

Sonderman plans to major in early education while at UNI, following in her mother’s footsteps.

“My mom’s a teacher so I kind of grew up with the behind-the-scenes of that and I really like little kids, in general, and the team that she teaches with too, so I’m hoping to do that in the future.”
