(4-11-25) – Sometimes overcoming adversity builds character. Hopefully, that will be the case for Cyclones track. Denison-Schleswig Co-Ed saw Harlan Community girls’ and boys’ competing with the Cyclone girls’ finishing 4th overall with 97 points while the boys’ also were 4th with 104 and half. The girls got wins in the 3000M from Lindsey Sonderman and Ashlyn Rau won the 1500M with a personal best time of 5:10.73. Rau pushed herself despite being tired from running back-to-back meets. “I think this race it felt really good. The only thing was yesterday’s meet made me feel a little tired, but I think that's what helped push me through the race and then all of my teammates were cheering me on, which that made me feel a lot better too.” Cyclone Coach Jenny Hamilton likes how Rau has progressed this season. “She has some strong finishes. She likes to feel good down the stretch and so, she's working on putting more effort in earlier than her races, but she's really done some neat things.” Back-to-back meets led to some athletes tiring and needing to recover, leading to some athletes being asked to compete in races they weren’t initially scheduled. Underwood got victories from Isabella Buckholdt in the 100M and long jump. Buckholdt discussed her preparation for both running and field events. “I've just been working outside of practice with my brother, my parents, and my coaches. You know, just putting in the work outside, like really has been helping me. My block starts and my two-steps into my long jump and getting the height on my long jump has really helped me PR.” The Eagles finished 3rd overall on the girls’ side with Tri-Center taking the title with 143 points, getting wins from Tess Casey in the 200M and 400M, Quincey Schneckloth in the 400M hurdles, and winning the Sprint Medley. The Cyclone boys’ got a win in the high jump from Dallas McDowell, Jeffery Gross took the 3200M title, and the team of Ayden Redmon, Sam Shields, Landon Nihsen, and Cade Nelson took the 4 by 200M. Jozef Reisz was 2nd in the discus. He told KNOD Sports that he’s been working on his technique. “I'm getting my spin down and it's really helped really well to make me throw the discus further.” Cyclone boys’ track Coach Sam Brummer said his team did well, despite a series of injuries that led to some younger athletes running new events. “Just kind of roller coaster overnight, you know, some highs, some lows, some twists and some turns, and ride the ride and get off tomorrow and we'll reset and see what things will look like for next week.” McDowell, Gross, and Nihsen all would suffer various injuries later in the meet. IKM-Manning ran away with the meet, winning with 163 points, getting a win in the 200M by Max Butler while taking the 4 by 800M, and shuttle hurdle relay events.
