HC’s Obrecht to Continue Women’s Wrestling Career at Morningside –

(2-21-25) – After being part of the first girls’ wrestling team in school history, Addison Obrecht continues to lead the way with first.

On Friday, Obrecht signed a letter of intent to continue her wrestling career at Morningside University this fall.

“It means a lot to me and I think it means even more to my teammates,” Obrecht told KNOD Sports after the signing. “I strive to be a leader in the room as much as I can, especially with a team (of) underclassmen on our team and it was one of my big goals this season was to push them as much as I can and be a leader to them.”

Being the first Cyclone to sign for women’s wrestling is important to Obrecht to show her teammates what they, too, can accomplish in this sport.

“Signing really means a lot because I want them to see that they can accomplish their goals.”

Obrecht had a 15-10 record her senior year with the Cyclones at 105 lbs. She feels her success in such short time of competing in the sports is great for her peers to see.

”Even though I've been wrestling under a year, I'm still here and I'm still doing it and I'm proud to be doing it and I'm proud to an example for (my teammates) that they can do it as well.”

Obrecht says Coach Tarah Devlin, an alum of Morningside, was helpful in her decision.

“Coach Tarah is a Morningside alumni and that's even makes it even more special to be able to sign (with) Morningside to wrestle.”

While Obrecht has not officially decided on a major, she says she’s looking into Psychology.
