Offensive Explosion Leads Harlan Community BB to Sweep of St. Albert –

(7-3-25) – The firework work show started early for Cyclones baseball.

In a pre-July 4th doubleheader, Colton Schneider and Hayden Soma each had a pair of homers for Harlan Community as they took a pair from St. Albert, 18-3 and 18-9.

Soma, who hit a grand slam in Game 1, went back-to-back with Schneider in Game 2 and was 6 for 7 with 7 RBI in the twin bill, says he keeps the same approach in each at bat.

“The approach stays the same every at bat. You go out there to hit the ball and that's just what I did. Sometimes you get lucky and hit one out. So, I guess it happened twice tonight.”

Luck was also with Colton Schneider, who was 6 for 6 with his 2 homers, 6 RBI, and 5 runs scored.

After struggling in Game 1, Harrison Kjergaard went 4 for 5 with 5 RBI in Game 2. His mentality in the second game was simple.

“I was a little rattled from the first game and I just thought I had nothing to lose. So, I just wrapped there, got dumb and see ball, hit ball.”

“He's been hitting really well in JV,”  said Cyclone Coach Heath Stein. “His JV success is carried over to the varsity success. (We) kind of put him in lower in the lineup. He knows he's going to get fastballs to hit and he's been on time a lot with a lot of them, been on the barrel all the time and really big night out of him.”

Kjergaard also pitched the final 2 1/3 innings of scoreless, hitless ball Game 2 for his first varsity win help out a depleted Cyclone bullpen.

Jonas Reynolds went four innings in Game 1, giving up 2 earned runs on three hits for his 3rd victory of the season.

Despite some trying time this season, Stein feels he has the players to make a solid run again this postseason.

“Just like every year, there's ups and downs. It's a good group of guys that I feel like wants to, you know, keep making a run, keep wanting to come to the yard. So, we're learning how to compete in the right way.”
