Riverside VB’s State Run Ends Against Ankeny Christian, 3-0 –

(11-6-24) – It was a spectacular and historic run to State, but the Bulldogs fell just short of goal.

Riverside volleyball came up short in their quest to come away with a state championship when they fell to Ankeny Christian, 25-12, 25-21, 25-18, in the Class 1A State Semifinals Wednesday.

After a wild rally to beat North Tama in 5-sets in the quarterfinals, the Bulldogs just could not come up with an answer for the Eagles, who got 13 kills and 25 assists from Katie Quick. Riverside Coach Brooke Flathers was proud of her team’s effort.

“I thought they fought really well. Ankeny’s a good team. Our kids made some adjustments. I mean, they finished those state semifinalists. They made school history. So they have a lot to be proud of for the season that they put together.”

Sophia Taylor had a team-high 7 kills for Riverside while Bentley Rone had 14 assists and Madison Kelley had 4 blocks. Taylor will have fond memories of this season.

“This community, everyone in it, this team, this team is my family. I mean, what I want to play on any other team, but I think it's just getting here and getting this far is something to be proud of.”

Riverside ends their season with a record of 39-4.
