Teamwork Key to AHSTW Success on Gridiron –

(11-3-22) – Losing your top rusher and receiver usually leads to a bit of slide for some teams. 5th-ranked AHSTW Coach G.G. Harris seems to use it as motivation and his team feels the culture around his Viking team keeps them playing as a unit.

“It’s buying into getting better each day, each week,” Harris told KNOD Sports Thursday. “Really kind of diving into details as far as discipline, doing those small things that don’t always equate to the scoreboard or wins and that started last year.”

AHSTW’s turnaround from a 4-5 playoff team last season to an undefeated and ranked juggernaut has been helped by the combination of the Brothers Sternberg. Senior QB Kyle Sternberg has over 1600 yds passing and 27 total TD’s while Junior Luke Sternberg has rushed for more than 1700 yds and 25 touchdowns. Harris loves how they complement each other on the field.

“Kyle makes some decision on getting the ball where it needs to be on time, whether it’s in space or handing it off to his brother, and Luke is such a dynamic playmaker when the ball’s in his hands.”

The Vikings defensively are allowing just 11.3 points per game lead by twin 100 tackle defenders Aiden Martin and Nick Denning.

“They’re ballhawks. They’re animals. They just love playing physical and fast and because of that we want make sure our scheme is designed to play really fast and physical.”

That fast and physical play will be needed against No. 2 Lynnville-Sully on Friday.

“(Lynnville-Sully) have very physical and athletic offensive linemen that get out and run and pull to do some different things. A ton of misdirection.”

“They really make hard on your eyes so you have to be super disciplined in the box and make sure you don’t know your assignment.”

The battle of unbeatens, AHSTW at Lynnville-Sully will air on KNOD 2 with pregame starting at 6pm.
