Woodbine Boys’ BKB Falls Short, Loses to St. Edmond in State Quarterfinals, 50-47 –

(3-12-25) - The Tigers battled the entire way… but came up just short of their goal.

Woodbine had a 9-point 3rd qtr lead after an 11-0 run, but they couldn’t hold it as St. Edmond got hot, going on a 22-10 run of their own over the final ten minutes of the game to defeat the Tigers 50-47.

Woodbine Coach Kyle Bartels felt his team had good chances late to the tie the game.

“You couldn’t knockdown shots at the end. You know, I thought we got some good looks. You know, Carson was hot, at the end of the game we got that look at the buzzer so it just tough to swallow just because we got some looks that we’ve knocked down and got knocked down throughout the game.”

The Tigers did all they could to pull even in the final minute of play. They had for attempts in a 30-second span after solid offensive rebounding by Carter Gruver and Carson Kelley gave them multiple looks. Kelley, who had four 3-pointers on the game, had look at the top of the key for a game-tying three as time expired, but was just off the mark.

For Brody Pryor, who had a team-high 13 points, he’s disappointed for his senior teammates.

“I'm a junior and all these seniors are just hoping; it’s their last year, they wanted to go out on a bang and I did too.  But just nothing we could do about it. Just the shot wouldn’t drop in the last seconds of the game.”

Pryor feels privileged to have played with a group that reached back-to-back boys’ state basketball tournaments for the first time since 1995-96.

“I wouldn't want to do with any other guys. I love each and every one of them guys in the locker room. Wouldn't have done it with anybody else. It’s been a journey, it's a real fun journey. I’m gonna miss those seniors.”

The Gaels got 18 points from Jakob Koopman. They’ll face Madrid tonight in the 1A Semifinals. Woodbine’s season ends at 23- 3.
