AHSTW Sweeps IKM-Manning in Basketball Double Dip -

(1-17-23) – One game went down to the wire while the other saw a complete team win in Avoca Tuesday.

The AHSTW girls' survive a late charge by IKM-Manning to come from behind and win 55-52.

11 points for Ellie Peterson who set the school record for blocks in a season for a second time. She said better passing and defense led to a resurging offense in the late in the game.

"It's about the little things in the second half," Peterson told KNOD Sports. "We weren't quite getting the passes down right, but then we did better in the second half and defensively, we were much better as well. Offense also starting falling for us too."

Delaney Goshorn added 21 points for the Vikings. The Wolves were led by Anna Stangl who had 20 points, including 4 of IKM-Manning’s 7 threes.

AHSTW trailed by 7 after the 1st qtr, but rallied to cut their deficit to 1 at the half. It remained that way until a 9-0 run in the 4th qtr opened the game the Vikings.

IKM-Manning made it interesting though. Trailing by 7 with 10 seconds remaining, the Wolves forced three consecutive turnovers and scored 4 pts in a 6 second span. A final three point attempt to tie the game came up short as time expired.

In the boys' game, AHSTW’s Kyle Sternberg ran away with a double-double, scoring 21 points, including 5 of the team’s 8 threes, and grabbing 11 rebounds in a 62-49 victory over IKM-Manning.

Senior Abe McIntosh came off the bench and scored 14 points, 10 in the first half. McIntosh appreciates the opportunity and support he’s received as the new kid on the block.

"These guys are great. They're supportive and coming to this school, it's just like a new family and they brought me in like their own. They're great and we've got good chemistry already."

13 points for the Vikings Brayden Lund. The Wolves were led by freshman Ben Ramsey and his 14 points.

AHSTW will now face Audubon in a doubleheader on Friday. That same day, IKM-Manning will host Tri-Center to two as well. (KNOD 105.3FM)
