Another Wild Walk-Off for Cyclone BB, Beat Denison-Schleswig, 6-5 –

(7-13-26) – The Cardiac Clones definitely entertain.

Jonas Reynold’s comment about liking to “keep the crowd entertained,” after the Cyclones walk-off win over Atlantic three days earlier is becoming their mantra as Harrison Kjergaard hit a chopper to short with the bases loaded and two outs, then hustled down the line to force an arrent throw to help Harlan Community to a 6-5 win over the Monarchs in 8 innings.

Kjergaard, who was 3 for 5 with an RBI, said the late rally by Denison-Schleswig in the 7th to knot the game and send it to extras inspired his final at bat.

“I like to tell my family that I perform a little better, a little bit better, a little bit pissed off,” said Kjergaard following his team’s 2nd consecutive walk-off win in the postseason. “I didn't like what they did in the top of the 7th. So, I went up there with a clear head and kind of got mad. And I was like, you know what, if I'm going to get a pitch, I'm going to take a hold of it and carry this team on.”

Denison-Schleswig started a 1-out rally in the 7th, getting a bases-clearing double from Roman Bygness against hard-throwing reliever Colton Schneider to tie the game at 5.

The Monarchs battled the entire game, responding to the Cyclones whenever they scored. Harlan Community took the lead the 3rd on a pair of RBI singles by Reynolds and Cade Nelson. Denison-Schleswig responded with an Owen Galvin 2-out single in the 3rd and 2-out single by Andy Pederson in the 4th to tie it, 2-2.

The Cyclones regained the lead on back-to-back errors with bases loaded in 5th, then tacked on an insurance run on Kjergaard RBI double in the 6th, before the Monarchs 7th inning rally.

Cyclone baseball Coach Heath Stein offered praise to Monarchs battling back late to tie it.

“Big time tip of the hat to them,” said Stein, who’s won at least 22 games in each of his first 5 seasons at the helm of Harlan Community. “They're behind three runs and Colton Schneider is on the mound and they just, a bat by a bat, did a great job of grinding him out and hit a couple of mistakes. So, just a wild game. Luckily that we came out on top.”

Reynolds had 2 hits and Nelson drove in 2 runs as Harlan Community improves to 25-8 on the year.

Denison-Schleswig finishes their season at 22-9.

The Cyclones will face Carlisle in the 3A-Substate 8 Championship Game on Wednesday.
