Boyer Valley, Tri-Center Split Basketball Doubleheader –

(1-15-26) – One team was running and gunning while the other fought a fierce battle to get the win. In the end, Tri-Center and Boyer Valley would end up with a doubleheader split.

The Trojans boys ran out to a 26-pt halftime lead over the Bulldogs and earned a 78-47 victory to remain undefeated on the season.

Tri-Center started the game on a 10-0 run before Boyer Valley slowly clawed back to within 4 pts in the 1st qtr, only to get outscored 13-5 the rest of the quarter, capped off by a Cael Witt 3-ptr.

It then led to another 10-run by the Trojans, who ran out the first 7 pts of the 2nd qtr, as they showed why their the No. 5 team in Class 2A.

Tyler Baatz, who had 12 pts for Tri-Center, talked about the camaraderie this team is having during their win streak.

“We're super close on and off the court and if one of us is down, we pick each other up. We do the best we can to keep each other in the game. But sometimes, if someone has to take over, we're fine with that. We just let it happen and just do what's best for the team.”

Boyer Valley would make a run early in the 2nd half to try and claw back into the game, going on a 5-2 run to start the 2nd half, but that would be as close as they would get as the quickness of Tri-Center allowed them several runout turnovers to build their lead.

The Trojans were led by AJ Harder with 21pts. Baatz talked about the leadership of the star guard.

“AJ's super talented. He's, in my opinion, the best point guard in the area and he's just awesome to play with. It just makes life easy having a point guard like AJ.”

Brody Koski led the Bulldogs with 11pts.

In the girls’ game, Sierra Falkena had 14 pts as Boyer Valley held on for a 52-45 win over Tri-Center.

Falkena knew her team needed to be sound fundamentally to come out on top against the Trojans.

“Just beating them with the rebounds. Rebounds always win games and getting back on transition defense and just making sure we're all where we need to be in order to pull off the dub.”

Every time the Bulldogs would go on a run, the Trojans would fight back. Boyer Valley would need a 3-ptr by Ava Klinker to take a 3-pt lead into halftime.

The Bulldogs then came out strong in the 2nd half, starting with a 7-2 run and wouldn’t look back.

It was a solid win for Boyer Valley and Falkena feels its helping build the team’s confidence.

“I'm really proud of our team coming in this year with two new coaches and just trusting them, knowing what they're going to do to us and just letting them lead the way.”

Sylvia Sullivan, who had 6 pts for the Bulldogs, set the school record for most free throws made all time during the contest. Tri-Center was led by Lauren Harder’s 14 pts.
