Bruck Stars as HC Volleyball Gets Win Over Atlantic, 3-1 -

(10-3-24) – The “Bruck Wall” was on display in Cyclone volleyball’s final home match of the regular season.

Kensley Bruck led the way with 11 kills and 4 blocks as Harlan Community got the win on Senior Night over Atlantic 3 sets to 1, 24-26, 25-22, 25-19, 25-16.

Cyclone Coach Elle Crees liked how her team responded after a slow start.

“Once we got through that first set, you could tell just in the huddle with what the girls were saying, they knew they had to pick it up and they knew exactly what to do, and then they showed out and they did it the next three sets.”

Bruck said her performance was helped greatly by her teammates and coaches.

“I think for my hits, it was really Macy (Mueller), my setter. She got the ball right where I wanted it and I love her so much. And for the blocks, I think, just like, the coaching has helped me a lot through the season because at the beginning of the season I really wasn't good at blocks.”

Crees likes how coachable Bruck has been.

“She wants to get better. She is working hard. She's looking for advice and now she's figuring it out because she has the skills. So, now she's doing self-critique, which you know is like the coach’s dream.”

Bruck returned to volleyball after not playing last season. She says she’s enjoyed her time with the team this year and thinks they’re coming together to close the season.

“It's been so fun. I love the seniors so much. We've really grown as a team and we have a lot of potential in our upcoming games, so I'm so excited for the next few games.”

Cyclone seniors Mueller and Aubrey Schwieso were honored before the match. Bruck talked about what they’ve meant to her.

“Macy, she is such an amazing person. She keeps practices so fun and she keeps me up during the games. And Aubrey, I've known her for so long and I think just playing with her on the court just makes it like 10 times better.”

Those seniors have also meant a lot to Crees.

“They know exactly what they mean to me. We’ve been through a lot together over the last four years. And yeah, they mean a ton. They're great girls. You can see how they play on the court and you just know that they're going to make it far in life.”

Harlan Community will next compete in a triangular against Glenwood and St. Albert in Council Bluffs on Tuesday. (KNOD 105.3FM)
