Career-high for McDowell helps Cyclone BKB to Split w/ Clarinda –

(2-5-26) – One Cyclone team couldn’t score while one Cyclone couldn’t help but score in a basketball doubleheader split with Clarinda Thursday.

Dallas McDowell has a career-high 32 points in the Cyclones 67-52 victory to end a two-game losing streak. McDowell said he took what the defense and help from his teammates gave him.

“They had some driving lanes open and they kind of just sagged off. So, it created open shots, but then also moving around and (getting a) screen from teammates to just help being able to get points. So, it was nice.”

Harlan Community Coach Dean Mosher was pleased with how his team played defense in the contest.

“It was good to see everybody come off the bench or the starters come with that energy and value the ball. We've been talking about that. It was good to have them come up with a lot of rebounds for our possessions and continue that throughout the game.”

The Cyclones Kobe Klaassen had a double-double with 14 pts and 10 boards. Sam Kline and Ryan Wagoner each had 15 points for the Cardinals.

Harlan Community hosting Clarinda and a fourth quarter scoring drought for both teams saw the Cyclones fall to the Cardinals, 37-34. The teams combined to score just 7 points total in the 4th qtr.

Coach Zach Klaassen was disappointed with the outcome.

“It's unbelievable to me. You hold a team to 37 points, that should be an automatic win. You take that every night.”

Harlan Community stepped up their game in the 2nd & 3rd qtrs, with terrific defense by Avery Manz, who made several steals, including one right under the basket for an easy bucket and Kenzley Bruck held her own personal block party with 6 on the game.

Bruck led the Cyclones with 11 pts while Manz had 9 pts. The Cardinals got 19 pts from Kylie Meier.

No rest for the weary as Harlan Community travels to face Lewis Central on Friday.
