Cyclone Baseball Finishes Season Sweep of Denison-Schleswig, 5-1 -

(6-12-25) – Sometimes, it’s all about the timing.

Harlan Community renewed their Highway 59 rivalry with Denison-Schlewig Thursday and got solid pitching at a critical time. Jonas Reynold’s pitched out of bases loaded jam in the 5th and went 6 2/3 innings to get his 1st varsity victory as the Cyclones topped the Monarchs, 5-1.

Reynolds talked about his long road back from injury last season.

“Because I didn't play last year, I was just getting back into it. First varsity appearances this year, so I mean, I'm just trying to shake the nerves off and throw strikes.”

The nerves were barely existent in the top of the 5th with Harlan Community leading 3-1. A one-out single by Roman Bygness and an error put runners on 1st & 2nd for Denison-Schleswig with the top of the order coming up. After a fielder’s choice, Reynolds hit Linkin Beeck with a pitch to load the bases. But Reynolds was able to get Cole Kastner to roll one over to short and got a fielder’s choice to end threat.

“I was pretty mad at myself,” said Reynolds. “Bases loaded on, what was it, one hit maybe? I was just trying to find the zone, but also throwing it as hard as I can.

It's pretty aggravating, but it's pretty good to get out of it.”

That’s back-to-back solid outings for Reynolds, who went 6 1/3 in a walk-off loss to Lewis Central last week. Cyclone starters this week have gone 3-0 and given up 1 earned run in 15 2/3 innings this week.

Harlan Community Coach Heath Stein likes how his young starting pitching of Reynolds, Gavin Eck, & Gavin Sisson, have developed over the course of this season.

“We like that. Being efficient, attacking the strike zone and those guys have all done a very good job.”

Colton Schneider got the final out of the contest to record his 4th save of the season. Two hits for Joseph Gross the Cyclones, who’ve now won 7 of their last 8.
