Cyclone Baseball Goes to Holiday Break with Win over Heelan, 7-4 -

(5-23-25) - Harlan Community hosted Bishop Heelan and the Cyclones got an offensive spark from the bottom of their order.

Weston Reisz was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI as Harlan Community came from behind to beat Heelan, 7-4, on Friday.

Weston talked about his team’s approach at the plate.

“It's really important. I mean, we just have to stay scrappy and do our thing and will be just fine.”

Cyclone freshman Gavin Sisson got his first varsity win, going 5 innings and giving up just 4 runs on 4 hits and striking out 3. Despite giving up a 2-run homer to the Crusaders Ethan Erickson in the 1st, Sisson was able to settle down and control the game the rest of the way.

Coach Heath Stein praised his young right-hander’s performance.

“He’s very composed and that's a really good lineup, really good team he threw against. He made the one mistake, I think it was a 1-2 pitch and we tried to throw a fastball out of his zone and he threw right down the middle and that kid did not miss it. But he responded very well. Didn't get, you know, shaken at all by it. For a freshman. That's very impressive.”

Sisson also impressed fellow pitcher Weston Reisz.

“He did an absolute great job at just attacking hitters and going right at them, not trying to throw around him. Just going right at them and throwing strikes and let his defense work.”

Prior to scoring 4-runs in the 4th, the Cyclones had been outscored 24 to 0 in their previous 15 innings. Getting the offense going, especially late in the game when their trailing is very important.

“The guys just know they have good approaches going on and they executed very well tonight and found some holes,” said Stein. “Top to bottom in the lineup, you're getting production. Really good at bats, creating pressure, getting base runners, so this it's a really, really, really good job by the guys tonight.”

Jozef Reisz continued his hot hitting for the Cyclones with a 3 for 4 game and 2 runs scored and is hitting .700 (7 for 10) to start the season. Foxx Argotsinger was 2 for 3 from leadoff spot while Cade Nelson reached base in 3 of his 4 at bats.

Colton Schnieder threw 2 perfect innings of relief to pick up his 2nd save of the season.

Harlan Community continues play at home with a doubleheader against Creston on Tuesday.
