Cyclone Baseball Ready to Make a Run in 2026 –

(5-18-26) – The experience is back. Now it’s time to execute.

Harlan Community baseball lost just five players to graduation and while all were starters and positions will need to be filled, a solid core returns.

But that doesn’t mean your don’t work on the basics.

“Guys have been working very hard,” said Cyclone Coach Heath Stein. “The state of Iowa allows you to get going in the month of January with pitchers and catchers and then so we've been throwing and doing some things in there and having an open hitting, if you will…

“Overall, we've been working really hard for quite some time now and we're really antsy to get going.”

Stein has been preparing his team for regular season plays with various drills to simulate game situations.

“As far as offensive philosophy right now, we're just really trying to get them live at-bats and thought processes when they're approaching their at-bat and when they're in there at bat. And then, as far as defensive, we're just, again, trying to make them think on their own, communicate with each other, if the ball's hit to me, where we're gonna go with it and where you need to be at all times.”

The pitching staff brings back a stable of starters in Jonas Reynolds, Gavin Eck, and Gavin Sisson. The trio was 15-6 with a 2.63 ERA last year and can get batters out with a barrage of pitches.

“All those guys are multiple fish guys who can throw different pitches in all the counts, so that's their strength, definitely.”

Speed is also a strength of Harlan Community offensively, with speedsters like Foxx Argotsinger and Cade Nelson

“We're always going to use our strengths there on the bases and really focus on being a team that runs the base as well, along with runs well, and just kind of finds ways in that and those two aspects to create pressure on the opponent.”

The pressure begins as the Cyclones will start their 2026 season against Sioux City North tonight.
