Cyclone BB Beats Thomas Jefferson, 9-2 –

(6-26-26) -  Another variety of ways to get the win.

Harlan Community put together solid at bats and got terrific pitching along with solid defense to get a 9-2 interconference win over Thomas Jefferson on Friday.

The Cyclones have now won five straight. Coach Heath Stein likes how his team is winning in a variety of ways.

“(We’re) winning in a variety of ways, either getting really good started pitching or crazy comebacks like the Carlisle game or, a day when you pile on 13 runs against Heelen. So just went in a variety of ways and showing toughness, meeting tough spots.”

This game saw the Cyclones offense take advantage of 7 walks, 3 hit by pitches, and 3 errors to score at least one run in each inning. Solid at-bats helped keep pressure on the Yellow Jackets pitchers all game.

Gavin Sisson went 6 inning and gave up just 2 hits and no earned runs while striking out 6. Sisson talked about his approach on the mound.

“We like to stay ahead. First batter is the most important batter of the game or the inning at least. We like to stay ahead and working the count. Sometimes there's some at bats where I got down 3-0, but just battled back and stay in it.”

The solid start by Sisson helped give him confidence after a pair of difficult games against difficult opponents.

“It's definitely a good bounce back outing. You know, last two outings haven't gone as I wanted them to, but just stick with the process, stick with what I know to do and really just come through in games like this when you need, when the team needs me.”

“Gavin was good tonight. We needed that out of him. He's been kind of hot and cold, hot and cold with his starts,” said Stein about Sisson’s start. “Just competing with three pitches is pretty tough for him. He gets this curveball going along with that good fastball and this changeup's a really good pitch, too. So, he's doing a nice job for us.”

The Cyclones Jonas Reynolds and Barrett Kaufman each with 2 hits and an RBI in the game.

The Yellow Jackets Jensen Hynek was 1 for 2 with a run scored.

Harlan Community will next play a doubleheader against Red Oak on Monday.
