Cyclone BB Gets DH Sweep of Shenandoah -

(12-6-24) – How SWEEP it is!

Harlan Community basketball got their first doubleheader sweep on the season with the girls’ holding on for a 66-62 and the boys’ earning a 58-55 win over Shenandoah Friday.

Cyclone girls’ Coach Zach Klaassen liked how the hard work in practice paid off for their first victory of the season.

“It looked like we ran a half-court offense and those have been things that we've really been stressed, stressed in the last few days."

Molly Swensen had four 3-pointers in her 19 points for the Cyclones as they beat the Fillies 66-62 to earn their first victory of the season. Swensen talked about the relief the team feels after getting one in the win column.

“It was a really good victory to have. Flush out our last games and just to work better together.”

Harlan Community also got 17 from Kensley Bruck. Kalyn Scamman led Shenandoah with 16 points.

Cyclone boys' basketball Coach Mitch Osborn liked how his younger players were able to handle their first meaningful game minutes of the season.

“I was very proud of our guys. They played hard. They battled and you could see a lot of inexperience. We had some nervous guys out there, but they settled in.”

Dallas McDowell led the way for the boys with 24 pts, including 17 in the first half. The poise McDowell and his teammates showed was able to set the tone early.

“It's just playing with confidence and just trusting everybody on your team because you know they eventually started collapsing down and you're able to get other teammates involved and we just play as a team and I really like that.”

17 points for the Cyclones Ben Leinen while Carter Sells topped the Mustangs with 19 points.
