Cyclone BB ‘In a Good Spot’ At Mid-Season –

(6-15-24) - After earning another come-from-behind win over Clarinda, Harlan Community baseball sits at 15-5 on the season.

“I think we're in a good spot,” said Cyclone Coach Heath Stein. “It would be nice if we could score a little more runs early on in games rather than make every win a comeback win, but it shows some toughness out of the kids and resilience. Proud of them. Proud of the way competed throughout the week and we have another five-game week next week.”

The starters for Harlan Community have been outstanding, averaging over 5 innings per outing and have an ERA of 1.95.

“Our strength has definitely been starting pitching throughout our first 20 games here and they keep us in ball games. Sometimes they absolutely dominate and as long as we throw the ball on the plate and make some good plays, routine plays, we're going to be in it.”

The Cyclones lost a pair to Glenwood in a doubleheader on Monday. Earlier this season, they held on for a close win over Lewis Central and will see the Titans again this week. These contests give Stein a preview of potential match-ups this postseason.”

“The league’s tough. Glenwood’s a tough team. LC always. So, they’re teams that were know that probably will get grouped with in the postseason. So, we'll try to learn as much as we can about them, try to find any flaws in what they do and get to know their hitters a little bit and their pitchers and try to put together a good game plan when it counts.”

And it’s just going to continue to be tough contests the rest of the way for Harlan Community.

“We'll be in battles like this type all games which are good to be in and try to get us ready for the middle of July.”
