Cyclone BKB Sweeps Shenandoah -

(12-4-25) – One game went down to the wire while the other began a new era. The total result was Cyclone doubleheader sweep.

Aubree Wegner’s layup late in the 4th would help Harlan Community hang on for a 39-38 victory over Shenandoah for their first victory on the season. Wegner talked to KNOD Sports about stepping up play late in the game.

“I knew it was a close game, and I knew that our team needed some points, and I was just there to happen to be the one to deliver.”

Cyclone Coach Zach Klaassen was most proud of his team’s 16-4 3rd qtr run to take over the lead after trailing at the half.

“We ran the offense the way it should have been run all the time and hopefully we'll get out in there and we'll watch some film and they can see the difference between 2 passes, check it up, or put your head down and go down the lane and hope for a foul.”

Brinley Van Baale led Harlan Community with 9 pts. Shenandoah’s Kalyn Scamman had a double-double with 13 pts and 10 boards.

In the boys’ game, a 20 to 5 run in the 3rd qtr as Harlan Community rolled to a 68-42 win over Shenandoah. McDowell, who led the Cyclones with 26 pts talked about the importance of getting out to a quick start in this one.

“We just knew we had to come prepared. Last year, we played and we didn't come prepared, and it was a close game and we didn't want that this year. So, we came out ready to play and we just got the job done.”

Cyclone Coach Dean Mosher was pleased with the quick start as his team opened the game on a 13-0 run.

“We wanted to get started fast, whether it worked for us or not, but luckily it did. We hit some shots early. It gave us some confidence and just kept it going from there, luckily. So it was a good feeling to get out, run, get a lot of touches for everybody, and get off to a good start.”

Kobe Klaassen had 17 pts and 9 rebounds for Harlan Community. Carter Sells and Joe O’Rourke each with 9 pts for Shenandoah.
