Cyclone Boys’ Basketball Gets Underway Thursday with Mosher at Helm -

(12-3-25) – The Dean Mosher era is set to begin.

On Thursday, the Harlan Community boys’ basketball team will begin their season under new head coach Dean Mosher. The offseason and running practices are a little different as a head coach than it is as an assistant.

“Yeah, it's for sure been a little different than previous years. I've just been kind of along for the ride, if you could just say that. Just doing what I'm kind of told and now this year, in a different role, you know telling what drills, what we're going to do for each day, but it's been going well.”

Mosher likes the effort his players have put in this offseason.

“The whole team put in a lot of work this summer with open gyms and some shootouts. So everybody's been putting in the work and just hopefully it transfers in a positive way this season.”

Harlan Community returns leading scorer Dallas McDowell, who averaged 17.3 PPG. Mosher is looking for McDowell and all his returning players to help with team leadership.

“We're looking to him to take I guess a bigger leadership role but along with that everybody stepping up and doing their part to help as a team.”

Another player Mosher looks to as a leader is Kobe Klaassen. With 13.4 PPG and 6.8 RPG his sophomore season, Klaassen could take another big step forward this year.

“Kobe's taken that leadership role on too, with the way he works in practice and just communicates overall.”

Mosher likes the time that was put in this offseason by several players that he feel will make contributions to this team.

“Colton Scheider, Foxx Argotsinger did a little more off-season work than I thought they maybe would, being big contributors on the baseball team. But Jake Wageman's another one that was there quite a bit this summer, almost every day, putting in work, getting ready for the season.”

And there will be chances for those players to make on the court.

“We lost, I think, eight seniors last year, so there's plenty of room for opportunity for the younger guys and older guys to get some floor time.”

Harlan Community boys’ basketball will begin the 2025-26 season against Shenandoah on Thursday.
