Cyclone Boys’ BKB Season Ends in Waterfall of Threes by Bishop Heelan, 83-48 -

(2-23-26) – It was a good start, but the Cyclones couldn’t stop the march of the Crusaders.

The 3A – Substate 8 quarterfinals saw Harlan Community kept it close in the first half, trimming to the deficit to 1 in the 2nd qtr, but then Bishop Heelan unleashed a monsoon of threes in the 2nd half; 11 total as Cyclones dropped an 83 – 48 decision, ending their season.

After falling behind 13-2 to start the contest, Harlan Community clawed their way back with a 10-4 run of their own. They trailed 27-26 in the 2nd qtr before Bishop Heelan finished the half on a 12-5 run and gave themselves a 39-31 lead at the break. The Crusaders run coincided with Cyclone forward Kobe Klaassen suffering an ankle injury that knocked him out for the rest of the contest.

Once halftime was over, that’s when the Crusaders began to phone in from long distance.

Noah Conley would hit five 3-ptrs in the first 3:30 of the 2nd half, doubling his 1st half point total, and extending Bishop Heelan’s lead to 20 pts. Carson Nichols would come off the bench and continue the onslaught from beyond the arc, hitting six more 3-ptrs as the Crusaders would hit 65 percent from that range in the 2nd half. They were 15 for 27 from 3-pt range for the game.

Conley finished with 30 pts while Nichols had 25 pts for Bishop Heelan.

Harlan Community was led by Kreed Boggess, who had 15 pts off the bench filling for Klaassen. He shot 62.5 from the floor and was a perfect 3 for 3 from 3-pt range. Dallas McDowell and Colton Schneider each had 10 pts.

Cyclone Coach Dean Mosher knew his team played hard, as they had all season.
“Always love our effort and it showed again tonight. Made a couple early runs and we kind of held our own, kept it pretty close and even at the second-half, the effort was there. They just made a couple more shots than we did.”

Harlan Community shot 45 percent from the field as a team, including 6 of 14 from 3-pt range.

Despite the quick end to the season, Mosher believes his team is on the right track to be competitive moving forward.

“Our improvement throughout the year, I know it's kind of beating a dead horse, but I truly believe that we are improving on things in offense and defense and learning some new things that we're putting in. They just stuck with it, stuck with me, same with me, help believing in them and they're sticking with each other throughout the year. So, it's good to see and I appreciate it from them.”

Harlan Community finishes their season 7-14.
