Cyclone Boys’ Soccer Falls to Denison-Schleswig, 2-0 -

(4-28-26) – Luck wasn’t on their side their side, in spite of the effort.

Harlan Community had the defense to get the win but not the offense as they fell on the road to Denison-Schleswig, 2-0, on Monday.

Cyclone Coach Levi Culp said his team played well despite the loss.

“They were passing it all over the place and my boys were very patient, very disciplined defensively and we were unlucky two times obviously where they got two goals. Overall, they played a lot better and their offensive movement is getting there and they're starting to come along.”

Junior Jesse Vandervort has been excelling in the new system, leading the Cyclones with 5 goals. Culp like his coachability and that he absorbs information to immediately see results.

“When I get time with him one-on-one with the sideline, we tell him the small adjustments that he needs to make to get those opportunities he's looking for to score and he goes in there and he does exactly those and he's benefiting from it.”

Harlan Community goalkeeper Lucas Paulsen has been solid between the pipes with a 74.5% save percentage and made several key saves to keep his team in the game against Denison-Schleswig. Culp likes how he puts his body on the line to make plays.

“His overall communication, and I love saying this about my keepers, his bravery was there all night. I mean, they were putting dangerous balls in the box all night long on corners and shots and through balls, and he was there every single time, stepping up, making big plays. I was very proud of him.”

Cyclone boys’ soccer will look to get back on the winning track with a special match against Glenwood at Creighton’s Morrison Stadium on Thursday.
