Cyclone FB Falls 0-2, Drops Home Opener 17-12 -

(9-5-25) – “Not great.”

That was Harlan Community football Coach Todd Bladts assessment of his team’s performance as they were looking to bounce back from a loss in their season opener, by hosting Glenwood.

Instead, the Cyclones offense sputtered while Rams QB Ben Carlo scored two rushing touchdowns as Harlan Community fell by a final of 17-12.

Bladt talked about his team’s offensive struggles.

“Our offense really struggled. We just (couldn’t get) third downs and be in a position to convert and we need to make those completions and keep those sticks moving and we weren't able to do that tonight offensively.”

Jackson Ahrenholtz had 52 yards total offense to lead the Cyclones who had just 152 yards in total offense.

Only points for Harlan Community came a pick-6 by Dallas McDowell and Jared Spangenburg’s first career varsity field goal from 26 yards out for Glenwood intentionally took a safety late in the game.

Bladt was pleased with the effort his defense against Glenwood.

“That defense really good. Step up and play a lot better tonight. You know, they didn't give up a whole lot.”

The Cyclones defense held the Rams to just 101 passing yards. Brody Bendorf had another solid game with a team-high 15 tackles while Hagen Sorensen contributed 11 tackles.

Bladt’s message to the team: simplify the game.

“We have to eliminate the mental mistakes… We got to open the door and start making things easier on ourselves by executing the little things.”

The Cyclones fall to 0-2 on the season with Lewis Central in next week.
