Cyclone FB Gets Homecoming Win over Monarchs, 48-0 –

(9-18-26) – The Cyclones start their new season 1-0.

Harlan Community finally gets one in the win column as they take out Denison-Schleswig on Homecoming by a final of 48-0.

It was a big day for the Homecoming King Brody Bendorf, who rushed for 98 yds and 3 TD’s.

After Cyclones forced a punt, they would sack the Monarchs punter Angel Bausita at 5 and two players later Bendorf score his first touchdown of the game for a 7-0 Cyclone lead. The next Denison-Schleswig series led to another punt and this time Landon Nihsen returned it 53 yard for the touchdown to give Harlan Community a 14-0 lead in the first 3:55 of the contest.

Bendorf, who also had 5 tackles including a sack, said it was important to get out to a fast start defensively.

“It's obviously very important to come out hot, sets the tone for the entire game. I think we did an excellent job with that tonight.”

The Cyclone defense held Denison-Schleswig to just 31 total yards of offense and two first downs. Coach Todd Bladt talked about Bendorf’s leadership on both sides of the ball.

“The muscle hamster was running a little wild tonight. He had a couple of big runs. He's able to just stick it in there and get a couple of yards here or there when you need it. Defensively, boy, he was flying around. He was making some big plays tonight and that comes from all three levels working together and we were so much better at that tonight.”

Bendorf would escape on a 29-yd scamper to increase the Cyclones lead before quarterback Creed Boggess would get into the end zone on a 1 yd run, set up by a terrific diving catch at the Monarch 1-yd line by Luke Ineson and go into the half leading 27-0.

Bendorf would finish a 10 play, 80-yd drive to start the 2nd half for his 3rd score of the contest and make it a 35-0 lead.

Levi Shields would rush for 60 yds and score his 1st varsity TD for Cyclones on a 22-yd run. Bendorf loves Sheild’s game.

“He's a stud. You know, like I just, I love the way he plays. He runs hard and if there's nowhere for him to go, he's going straight and he's going through. I love that about him.”

“He's coming along,” added Bladt about Shield’s progress. “He's really starting to read things, see the holes, and he's got a quick explosive step that gets him to the daylight, and he's going to keep improving the more times we're giving the ball and live reps.”

Avery Kimmen also scored his 1st varsity TD on 33-yd run late. Harlan Community would rush for 237 yds on the evening.

Despite the slow start to his senior season, Bendorf keeps a positive outlook as a leader for this team and encourage his teammates to continue to push themselves and not give up.

“I do my absolute best at getting everyone pumped up, keeping everyone's heads up, having us work as a team. Just keeping everyone hyped, that's my job. Keep everyone happy.”

The Cyclones will host top-ranked Carroll in the their first district matchup on Friday.
