Cyclone GBB Roll Over Tigers in Regional QF, 72-25 -

(2-15-25) – The new rebounding queen helped get her team to the regional semifinals with a win on Saturday.

Grace Albertsen had 17 pts and 12 boards as Harlan Community rolled to a 72-25 win over Red Oak in the Class 3A – Region 5 quarterfinals.

Albertsen feels this was a great win for the team.

“This game was definitely a big confidence booster after coming off that loss to Atlantic (on Tuesday), but I think this game was big for us. Just a win and it'll definitely help our confidence moving forward into the next game.”

The game allowed Harlan Community Coach Zach Klaassen to get some of his bench players in for some important minutes during the contest.

“It's fun to reward those kids,” Klaassen said following the victory. “They bust their butts every day in practice and they make us better every day.”

Lauren Schmitz contributed 5 pts while Avery Manz had 4pts and Victoria William had huge block in the 2nd qtr.

“It was good to see Victoria got a big swat. That got the whole crowd excited, especially student section and our sidelines.”

With 12 rebounds, Albertsen set the school single-season record for rebounds. She talked about how she’s worked at the craft.

“Obviously, it helps that I’m a lot taller than the rest of them, but when we’re on defense, just boxing people out so I can get the rebound and they can’t is pretty important and then going up on the O-boards are also pretty important.”

It’s the 3rd consecutive season the Cyclone’s rebounding record has been broken with Erica Rust breaking it the past two seasons.
