Cyclone Girls’ BKB Season with Loss to Bishop Heelan, 86-46 –

(2-21-26) – It’s never an easy task to battle the No. 1 team in the state in your class.

That was what faced Harlan Community girls’ basketball Saturday in the Class 4A – Region 1 Semifinals. Bishop Heelan showed their status is warranted, handing the Cyclones an 86-46 loss to close out their 2025-26 season.

“We knew coming in here is going to be an uphill battle,” said Cyclone Coach Zach Klaassen after the game. “You know, they got three Division I girls out there. That's a lot for a high school team in the state of Iowa.”

That Crusader group rushed off to a 20-pt lead in the 1st qtr, using precision shooting and pressure defense to force several turnovers by the Cyclones.

Trishelle Miller led Bishop Heelan with 17 pts while Melina Snoozy had 15 pts.

Kensley Bruck finished her season with an 18-pt performance. She’ll be a key focal point to a Cyclones team that will return three starters and the majority of their bench.

“There's a lot of potential in that room. It's just a matter of what you're going to do with it, I guess. There's a lot of shooting that needs to be done, whether it's free throws or three pointers, but our shooting percentages have to come up.”

The Cyclones shot 33.6% from the floor and just 23.4% from 3-pt range on the season.

The three seniors for Harlan Community, Addi Wicks, Kate Koesters, and Lauren Schmitz, left their impression on Klaassen and their teammates.

“You always remember senior groups for something or another and this senior group, I really, I'll remember them for their heart, their effort, their pride. They just like, if anybody watched that game tonight, they played hard from the tip to the last horn.”

Harlan Community’s 2025-26 season ends at 9-14.
