Cyclone Girls’ Soccer Building Confidence a Third Through Season -

(4-19-26) - After going 2-1 in their past three games, Harlan Community girls’ soccer Coach Chelsey Buman feels she’s seeing improvement in her squad.

“Every game they're getting better,” Buman told KNOD Sports. “Every practice we sit down, we talk about what went right, what went wrong, and then that's what we work on in practice. So, we're getting there. The pieces of the puzzle are all there. We're just trying to fit them all together.”

Over their past three games, the Cyclones edged out Riverside 2-1, fell on the road to Kuemper Catholic 9-0, and got the win over East Sac County 4-1.

Abbie Anderson’s hat trick against East Sac County was her first three goals of the season, ending a frustrating stretch to start the season.

“Abbie's been really hungry the last couple of games,” said Buman. “She's kind of frustrated that she hadn't gotten a goal yet, so it was nice to see her finally poke one through and I think all the tension just melted away from her.”

Seeing players like Anderson succeed allows Buman and her staff to see the confidence build in them.

“It's a big ordeal to have that confidence in them and have them have that confidence in each other. You know, every loss we have is a learning opportunity, but every win is just another tier on that confidence builder.”

Cyclone girls’ soccer will look to build upon their growing confidence when they go on the road against Red Oak Monday.
