Cyclone Girls’ Track Wins Home Co-Ed, Boys’ Finish 6th –
(4-13-26) – In a night of firsts, it was only appropriate they would finish 1st. Harlan Community hosting their first ever co-ed track meet and in the Koos Relays portion of the meet, it was the Cyclone girls’ who came out on top with 156 pts for their 2nd consecutive meet victory. Cyclone Coach Jenny Hamilton is proud of the competitive nature of her team. “Deep down, everybody has a love to compete and work hard and take their body to the limit,” said Hamilton after the win. “So, they were kind of itching to have a meet and it's just, it's fun to see what you got and put your best out there.” Harlan Community’s Anisley Mages was part of the Shuttle Hurdle relay team that won with a time of 1:12.95. Mages believes being the right frame of mind has helped with hurdling. “I think a lot of it comes from just like your mental space where you're at, because you can't get too in your head, especially with hurdles, or you're just going to crash and burn. So, I just try not to do that.” Mages also finished 3rd in the 100-meter hurdles and 4th in the 400-meter hurdles. AHSTW finished 2nd with 136 points while Denison-Schleswig was 3rd with 135. The Ken Carstens invitational side saw the Harlan Community boys finish 6th overall with 67 pts. Coach Sam Brummer got another win out of his Sprint Med team of Landon Nihsen, Sam Shields, Hagen Sorensen, and Foxx Argotsinger with a time of 1:38.94 and like that several athletes are getting chance to compete in these relays. “Obviously, it's a good race and one that I think we can be productive with and do a lot of things with, but we're not just going to hang our hat and say these are the only four kids that can run it.” The Cyclone boys also got a dominating win in the 3200 from Jeffery Gross with a time of 10:27.58. Gross appreciated the home crowd urging him on to the win. “It's awesome,” Gross said following his victory. “I'm proud of Harlan. It really helps me out when they cheer me on, and I just really want to thank them for helping me.” Lewis Central was your winner with 149 points while Treynor was 2nd and Atlantic 3rd.
