Cyclone Girls’ Wrestling Gains Experience in Hosting Home Quad –

(12-8-25) – A small but mighty squad is representing Cyclone girls’ wrestling this season.

On Monday, Harlan Community girls hosted their home quad with Carroll, Kuemper Catholic, and Denison-Schleswig. For Coach Tarah Devlin, the knowledge for her young wrestlers to gain through this situation will be valuable.

“I mean, we know that we're small and mighty,” said Devlin following the quad. “This is a rebuilding year for us, but we told the girls to use it as a learning experience.”

The Cyclones are currently down to just two girls’ wrestlers: Hallie Lopez and Danica Schwery. Elle Stephens, who was a state runner-up in Class 1A last year at 125lbs, is out with an injury and not expected to wrestle until after the new year.

The Cyclones Hallie Lopez went 1-2, getting a 5-1 decision over Carroll’s Cameron Kinkade at 145lbs. Lopez feels she’s learning a lot about the sport.

“This is only my intro to my second year wrestling. So, it's been quite a journey. I've learned a lot throughout this one year that I've been wrestling. Definitely every day, every single match, win or lose, like I learn something every single time.”

Devlin liked the effort put on by Danica Schwery, despite going 0-3.

“We're going to fumble every once in a while and that's okay because, in (Schwery’s first match), she lost her feet. The second one, she didn't. She followed through on a shot and was able to get a takedown and sometimes we celebrate those little wins as huge wins because that's what we need to do, especially in this learning time is just continue to move forward and continue to learn, grow, and get better.”
Carroll and Kuemper Catholic split the quad with each getting two wins but tying each other in their dual.

Cyclone girls wrestling will next compete at Riverside on Friday.
