Cyclone SB Beat Underwood in Walk-Off, Fall to Shen in Nightcap –

(7-2-25) – An unusual doubleheader for Cyclone softball started with an instant classic.

Harlan Community got an Aubree Wegner’s RBI single in the bottom of the 7th gave the Cyclones an wild 11-10 victory over Underwood in Game 1.

Wegner talked about the team’s approach at the plate.

“Our mindset had to be a big thing. We had to get up to the plate and know what we needed to do what our job was and execute it.”

It was a back-and-forth marathon game that saw four lead changes and two ties over the final four innings of the contest.

The Cyclones Taylor Heese was 3 for 4 with a two-run homer in the 6th that gave them the lead at the time. She feels the confidence building with this team but knows more needs to be for them to continue to succeed.

“We just need to keep focusing on pitches and like laying off high balls, waiting on change ups and the mentality that's like, you got it.

In Game 2, Cyclones would get shutdown by Shenandoah in a make-up game from last week, falling to Fillies 8-0 in 5 innings. Avery Manz went 4 for 7 in doubleheader with 2 RBI. Coach Brett Croghan likes how Manz has been working the bat of late.

“She does really good job in the app bat to make an adjustment. She might get fooled and then she'll sit back on a pitch. That's when she'll drive the other way. That's really been a big thing that we've seen with her is making those in at that adjustments to just put the ball in play and try not to get bad outs.”

Croghan sees the change in his team that’s let them start to win games late in the season.

“Just finishing games and finishing innings and capitalizing when we need to capitalize and taking advantage of all those situations. It’s not something that always did at the beginning of the year. So, when the runners in scoring position, we put that ball in play. We have scored those runs now and that's just been a big flip to switch here coming down the stretch.”
