Cyclone SB Falls to Lewis Central After Rough 1st, 18-7 -

(6-19-25) – They showed fight, but the outcome was decided early.

Harlan Community hosted Lewis Central and the Cyclones didn’t give up after falling behind early, but still lost to the Titans 18-7.

Harlan Community Co-Coach Brett Croghan felt the score didn’t indicate how well his team played.

“Very proud of the girls today. It was a tough first inning, but one thing that we've been trying to breach the whole the year is one inning at a time, and even though we had a bad one at the first one, we knew we had a lot more softball. So, very proud of them and their response and how they fought back and really kind of stole some of that momentum in those middle innings.”

Lewis Central scored 10 runs in the 1st, chasing starter Rebekah Christiansen after just 6 batters following a Madison Johnette 2-run homer to make it 6-0 before an out was recorded. Lauren Schmitz finished the game going 7 innings, striking out three.

Taylor Heese had 2 hits, including a homer, and 5 RBI for the Cyclones. Heese’s homer was in the 1st with nobody out and sparked a 4-run response to cut their deficit to 6 after one inning of play, proving to Croghan, once again, that his team will compete no matter what the score.

“That is something that this team has done all year and I don't know how they do it, but they do. They just find a way to hype each other up, hype the team up and just never give up. They never quit, which is something that we are really, really proud of them for doing throughout this year.”

Lauren Schmitz and Kaitlyn Schmitz also had 2 hits for the Cyclones.
