Cyclone SB Season Ends w/ Regional Loss to Atlantic, 10-2 -

(7-10-25) – As was the story all season, the Cyclones battled.

Harlan Community was on the road for their 3A-Region 8 quarterfinal contest against Atlantic on Thursday and the Cyclones hung around with solid defense that included a runner thrown out at the plate and a beautiful double play on a line drive Aubrie Arkfeld to end a threat in the 2nd.

But it wasn’t enough as the Trojans scored 6 runs in 4th and beat Harlan Community by run-rule, 10-2 in 5 innings. Atlantic will play Centerville in the regional semifinals on Saturday.

Cyclone Co-Coach Brett Croghan thought his team was at the top of their game to start.

“I told them after the game that was our best 3 1/2 innings of softball I think we played all year. With making plays when we had to and then coming up and making an adjustment off of a really good pitcher and putting the ball in play, making some things happen. So really, really proud of the girls on what they did here today.”

Harlan Community trailed 2-0 going into the top of the 4th when their hitters adjusted to Atlantic hurler Peyton McLaren and began to attack her early in the count. Getting three consecutive hits, including RBI singles by Carleigh Goshorn and Suzy Kenkel.

Croghan liked how his hitters started make adjustments midgame late in the season.

“As a newer coach, it's just something I haven't seen very often, so it's really fun to be on this side and kind of watch the fruit of their laborers work. And it's just a tough thing that the that the season's over.”

Croghan is happy for the future of the program and looks forward to what his athletes will be able to accomplish next season and has a message for Cyclone fans.

“Come prepared for next year. It’s gonna be a show. Hopefully, we can grow over the winter and come prepared to see a pretty good performance.

Harlan Community finishes their season at 7-24.
