Cyclone VB Losing Streak Continues After Loss to Clarinda, 3-0 –

(9-1-26) – It was a good start, but he results didn’t change.

Harlan Community volleyball started well, playing two close sets against Clarinda before falling apart in the 3rd set and losing 25-20, 25-18, 20-7 in straight sets on Tuesday.

The loss extends the Cyclones match losing streak to 15, dating back to last Sept. 27th.

Cyclone Coach Amber Brown felt her team played well early.

“I think those first two sets, we talked a lot about everybody doing their job and everybody owning every single point and playing like a winner. And I feel like we did that. We had our ups and downs, but for the most part, people were doing their job and we were getting balls up and we were putting balls down and we were hanging in there.”

Harlan Community was tied at 15 in Set 1 and 12 at Set 2, before falling in each set as Clarinda would take advantage of Cyclone miscues late in each match.

As for the 3rd set, Brown says she wasn’t sure what happened.

“I'm not really sure what happened in the third set. Our server seat broke down a lot. People stopped doing their jobs. So we mixed it up a little bit and, you know, didn't really go our way.”

Aubrey Wegner and Kensley Bruck led the way for the Cyclones with 4 kills each. Brown likes how Bruck has started her season and looks forward to having her for a full year.

“She's been doing a good job of getting on top of the ball and taking care of the ball, right, not making errors. And yeah, she's found some success on finding those open spots.”

Clarinda got 12 kills from Miley Wagoner.

As for Harlan Community, confidence would certainly be helpful to help get them out of their slow start. Brown believes that they need to work harder to ‘win’ practice.

“We're going to work hard at practice the next three days and we're going to win practice and we just had a hard, long talk about we haven't been winning practice, right? We've been kind of going through the motions at practice and part of that's on me. I can hold them to a higher standard and they have to put themselves to that higher standard too.”“

Harlan Community will next compete in the Glenwood tournament on Saturday.
