Cyclone VB Season Ends w/ Straight-Set Loss to Glenwood –

(10-21-25) – It just wasn’t the Cyclones night.

Harlan Community taking Glenwood in their Class 4A – Region 2 opener and the Rams dominated from the onset, beating the Cyclones in straight sets, 25-8, 25-14, 25-11.

Harlan Community Coach Amber Brown felt her team gave it their all despite the loss.

“I told the girls to just go out swinging, right? If they beat us, they beat us. They're a great team. They're better than us tonight but we wanted to go out swinging. We wanted to go out diving for balls and hitting the floor and playing our game on our side of the net. We didn't really do that the first set, but we did, I feel like, do that the second-half of the second set and through the third set.

Hope Preston led the Cyclones with 7 kills to finish the season with 155. Preston, along with Carly Torneten, Ellerie Nelson, Kate Koesters, and Addy Wicks, will be missed by Brown.

“I actually got to coach these girls when they were freshmen,” Brown explains. “So, this group of seniors is just really special and I could not have asked for a better group of seniors to have my first season, being that I already had that relationship with them and they were just great leaders on the court. I'm going to miss all of them.”

Kaylee Wray had 16 kills for the Rams who will face Bishop Heelan on Thursday.

The returning core for Harlan Community volleyball includes Taylor Heese, who led the team in assist and aces while 2nd in digs and 3rd in kills, Aubree Wegner, who was 2nd in kills and blocks, and Avery Manz, who contributed 141 digs on the year. Brown knows this will be a solid base that knows what to expect next season.

“They can hit the ground running in the off season and keep working on some of those things we've established through this season and then come summer when we start working on stuff, they've just made so many gains this year already that we can start, we don't have to start from scratch.”

Harlan Community’s season ends with a record of 14-20.
