Cyclone Volleyball Starts Season 1-2 after ADM Quad -

(8-30-24) – It wasn’t a perfect start, but still a lot of promise.

That’s how Harlan Community Coach Elle Crees saw her team after they went 1-2 in their quad Thursday, defeating Woodward-Granger 2-0, but falling to Des Moines Christian and ADM, both by 2-0 finals.

“1-2 isn't exactly how you want to finish, but there's so many good things that came out of it. The girls competed, they played super well together and that's kind of a great place to start. Only can get better from here, I think.”

Kensley Bruck had a big debut for the Cyclones with 11 kills, 2 blocks, and 2 aces in the three matches. Crees has been impressed with her growth early on.

“If somebody told me she was going to start varsity to you this year, might call you crazy. But that girls worked so hard and it's showing. Her mindset, her attitude, her ability. Everything is just coming together and man, she put on a little bit of a show last night.”

Crees liked Hope Preston’s all-around game where she had 8 kill, 12 digs, and served a team-high 3 aces in the quad.

“Just seeing her from last season to this season, I would say this is the biggest year of growth she's had. She's just all-around utility player. She can hit from the back row, hit from the front row. She was playing awesome defense last night and battling a little bit of a hurt knee. So she's just been super tough and just a great solid player.”

Harlan Community will get back at it when they host a tournament at home on Saturday.
