Cyclones BB Sweeps Shenandoah in DH -

(6-24-24) – It was a clinic on how to score… without doing much.

Harlan Community scored on timely ground outs and miscues by Shenandoah to earn a doubleheader sweep by finals of 8-5 and 5-4.

The Cyclones manufactured runs in both game by showing patience at the plate and making productive outs. In Game 1, Harlan Community scored 5 runs in the 4th… on just one hit. They walked 6 times in the inning, twice with the bases loaded.

But Stein would like to see his players’ bats wake up a little more in those types of situations.

“I’d like to see a little bit more pressure. You know, there's quite a few lazy fly balls and stuff like that again tonight. Guys battle their approaches and their swings a little bit, but a good way to grind out those, you know, get those much-needed runs to start games and to add on the middle innings. So we need to keep doing that.”

Starting pitching was again the key for Harlan Community in earning the doubleheader sweep. Caleb Schleis had another terrific outing for the Cyclones, going 6 innings and giving up just 2 runs while striking out 7.

“Schleis was pretty damn efficient in that first game, and he was cruising pretty good and he got to, I think, 90 pitches after he got through 6.”

Quinn Koesters struggled out the pen, but Colton Schneider was able to follow and closed out the first of two saves on the evening.

In Game 2, Weston Reisz fought his way through 5 innings, putting up 103 pitches and giving up just 1 earned run while striking out 7.

“Weston was just kind of allover a little bit and it was kind of a tough zone to throw to, but he battled through made pitches when he needed to get out of jams.”

Harlan Community is now 21-6 on the season.
