Cyclones VB Gets Straight-Set Win over Denison-Schleswig –

(9-8-26) – It was a win 364 days in the making.

Harlan Community able to dominate Denison-Scheslwig, earning a straight-set victory, 25-23, 25-17, 25-4. The win was the first for Harlan Community in a 5-set match since 9/9 of last year against Shenandoah.

Aubree Wegner, who led the Cyclones with 10 kills, talked about changes made defensively that have started to help.

“We did recently change our defense to our rotational defense and I think that's been working out for us pretty well and knowing what to cover, what's ours.”

The Cyclones also had 24 aces in the contest, lead by Taylor Heese’s 6. The win was the first for Harlan Community in a 5-set match since September 9th of last year against Shenandoah.

Coach Amber Brown feels her team has played well this season, despite their 2-10 record.

“The whole season they've been playing better and better and better. It's just the competition that we've faced has really challenged us and we just haven't kind of been able to get over that hump. So, it's nice to get over that hump and build some confidence and I was proud of the girls last night for playing our level of play on our side of the net.

Meanwhile, Cyclone senior Aubree Wegner talked about coming together as a team.

“A lot of us just learn to have fun and I think that was the main thing to our success tonight was hanging loose on the court and just lifting each other up and brushing off all our mistakes.”

Cyclone volleyball looks to continue to the fun after a week-plus break when they take on Blair on Thursday.
