Defense Is What Woodbine Girls' BB Hopes Will Bring Them a Championship -

(11-20-22) – After a 20-4 season, Woodbine is pressed to use their experience to help them in the upcoming season.

“We know now, moving forward, exactly what we have to do,” says Tigers Coach Ryan Coenen. “We have to be able to replicate that stuff in practice and in games, that mentality, that tenacious defense, and we know on our end of it this year, we’ve got one goal and one goal only and that’s to play defense with our whole heart and soul and communicate with each other.”

After finishing 2nd in the Rolling Valley to Exira-EHK, Woodbine fell to Remsen St. Mary’s in the Class 1A regional semifinals. Coenen knows playing better defense, starting against teams within their own conference, could be what his team needs to attempt to reach the state tournament for the first time since 1974.

“We know now, we got beat by Remsen. We couldn’t get stops. It doesn’t matter how many points you score if you can get stops. We need to get stops on the defensive end.”

The Tigers will start the 2022-23 season with a road contest against AHSTW Monday evening. (KNOD 105.3FM)
