Down 9, IKM-Manning BB Rallies to Beat Exira-EHK, 17-13 –

(6-17-26) – The Wolves would not go gentle into that good night.

Down 9 runs going into the bottom of the 4th, IKM-Manning rallied for an improbable come-from-behind win over Exira-EHK, 17-13, Wednesday.

The Wolves would 8 runs in the 4th to cut their deficit to one. The first 10 batters of the inning reached base on 2 hits, 3 walks, 3 hit batters, and an error.

The Spartans answered with a run of their own in the 5th, before Logan Halbur tied the game at 10 with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning.

Halbur said the Wolves were certain they could pull off this victory.

“Everyone thought we could win the game and had confidence of winning that game. And everyone kept their head up and people in the dugout were cheering and keeping people's heads up and saying, we got this. And that's how we win ball games, is keeping people's heads up.”

Exira-EHK continued to put the pressure on, getting 3 runs in the 6th for a 13-10 lead. But, IKM-Manning came up with another scoring barrage, with 7 runs in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of three Spartan errors.

Halbur, who was 2 for 5 with 3 RBI, knows this was an important win for his team, when compared to the loss to Missouri Valley the night before and knowing they’ll be facing a tough Treynor next.

“It was really good actually because we play Treynor tomorrow and that gives us more confidence and saying like, we got this, we could play with against any team and that we can hit off of anyone and just have the confidence at the plate while swinging the bat and having defense.”

The Spartans, who were bidding for their first victory of the season, scored 6 runs in the 1st, capped by a 2-out, 3-run triple by Jack Lassek. They added three more in the 4th and had complete control of the game, allowing just three base runners to that point.

IKM-Manning got a scoreless 2/3 of an inning from Jeremy Wax, who got the win, while Karsyn Lorenzen got the save. Halbur likes having them on the bump.

“They're two wonderful pitchers and they know how to hit their spot and how to make plays.”

Josiah King had 3 hits and an RBI for Exira-EHK, while Lassek was 2 for 2 with 4 RBI and Anthony Young drove in 3 runs.
