Fink, Jens Win Championships at Dan Hill Invitational, HC Wrestlers Finish 4th -

(12-7-24) – Going out a champion in front of the home fans is an athlete’s dream.

Harlan Community senior wrestlers Spencer Fink and Jesse Jens were able to do just that when they won the 120 and 126 lbs titles respectively at the annual Dan Hill Invitational on Saturday. The Cyclone wrestlers would finish 4th overall with 148.5 pts. Logan-Magnolia was the tournament winner with 248 pts.

Fink, who won the 120lb title with a pin of Lo-Ma’s Noah Archibald at 3:47 of their match, liked how his final season started.

“It feels great to get a win at home to start off the season my senior year.”

Jens won his match over Winterset’s Judah Gurwell with a 9-0 major decision that saw several stoppages due to Jens having an issue controlling a bloody nose. He says multiple delays in a match can have adverse effects.

“A lot of it depends on the match. When I go into a match and I'm winning, I'll always take a break, but I like to keep the gas pedal going when I'm going. So, it all depends on the flow of the match.”

For Fink, it’s simple as to what has been the secret to his success.

“Hard work. That's the main thing here is just start putting the work and come out on top like today.”

Harlan Community will next compete in a quad at St. Albert on Tuesday.
