Harlan Community Announces New Coaches for Softball, Volleyball -

(1-22-25) - Harlan Community Athletic Director Anthony Donahoo announced the hiring of two new coaches Wednesday.

Amber Brown will take over as varsity volleyball coach this coming fall.

“Amber has quite a bit of awesome experience,” Donahoo told KNOD Sports. “She did a great job in her interview with all the youth (programs) she has been a part of and what she wants to bring to the table. We're excited about kind of the future of what that brings.”

Brown, who’s Harlan Community’s high school math teacher, takes over for Elle Crees, who resigned after this past season.

For softball, the Cyclones will now have former baseball star Brett Croghan and Nolan Heese at the helm as co-head coaches. Croghan and Heese were part of Harlan Community’s 2016 Class 3A State Championship win over Carlisle.

“They’re buddies and they’re very, very excited… They are already in the cage with the girls.”

Donahoo says almost 40 players have signed up for Cyclone softball this year.

Croghan and Heese take over for last year’s Harlan Community coach, Tarah Devlin-Lawler, marking the fourth coaching change in as many seasons.
