Harlan Community Boys’ Wrestling in the Right Frame of Mind -

(1-29-26) - Harlan Community boys’ wrestling Coach Dr. Adam Bendorf feels his wrestlers are building the confidence they need to succeed.

“We've been working hard and some of these younger guys coming up freshmen, the confidence and just transitioning into that level of competition that we had at high school takes a little bit of time and I think they're just kind of hitting their stride and a lot of hard work and things (are) just coming together.”

Chayton Snethen, who is 35-3 on the season, came into the season with a different mentality and Bendorf says you can see it in his performance.

“He started out the season with just a little bit different attitude and just wants it. And that's showing in the wrestling room. He's just working hard and is more focused and just more consistent. So, that’s just translated into better performance and competition too.”

As confidence builds in his younger wrestlers, it’s turning to wins on the mat. Sophomore Coy Obrecht has been excellent of late, going 5-1 in a triangular with Kuemper Catholic and Red Oak and a quad at Colfax-Mingo. Again, Bendorf feels his in the right frame of mind.

“I think just mindset, he's developing a little bit better of a routine before matches and just kind of getting his head in the right place before the match so he's ready to perform when he gets out there.”

For freshman Avery Kimmen, who’s 23-6 on the season, Bendorf feels he’s adjusting to the higher level of competition very well.

“He's been wrestling since he was a little kid and did well in the youth program. And sometimes just stepping up into that high school scene, it's another level of competition and it takes a little bit of time for some of these guys to realize that they are good enough and that they know what they need to know and you just need to trust in that and just get after it.”

Harlan Community boys’ wrestling will have a quad in Creston Thursday before competing in the Hawkeye Ten Tournament in Glenwood Saturday.
