Harlan Community Football Shut Down By LC, 55-9 -

(9-11-26) - Harlan Community traveled to face Lewis Central and the Titans thumped the Cyclones by a final of 55-9.

Cyclone Coach Todd Bladt felt his team had difficulty dealing with their overall speed.

“A couple times we got behind the sticks here and stopped us offensively, especially down in the red zone. Thought the offense moved the ball pretty well. Defensively, they had a lot of speed and we were a little short-handed and they took advantage of that.”

Jacob Spangenberg was all the Cyclones offense with three field goals, including a career-long 40 yarder. Spangenberg is 5 for 5 in the past two games.

“That's a good weapon to have,” said Bladt about his junior kicker. “He's doing really well for us and each time he's been called on, he's knocked her through the old two sticks. So, you know, he's beneficial when we're not getting the end zone.”

While having Spangengberg in his back pocket is nice, but Bladt knows his offense needs to finish, especially in the red zone.

“We got to work on that red zone offense, that's for sure.”

Thomas Jefferson transfer Braxton Parks had 6 catches for 137 yds and 2 TDs for the Titans while Braydan Doss rushed for 148 yds and 3 scores.

For Bladt, his staff, and his players, their season starts this week.

“We're 0-0 and we're going into our season now and, you know, if we can get that restart and get that mindset and be ready to play against Denison, you know, they're excited it's homecoming. We're going to be playing the Monarchs down at Merrill Field and we're going to try to be flying around, that's for sure.”

Harlan Community will now prepare for their homecoming contest against Denison-Schleswig on Friday.
