Harlan Community Girls’ Track Finishes 2nd at Lady Red Relays -

(4-29-25) – The Harlan Community girls competed at the Lady Red Relays in Missouri Valley on Tuesday and it was another record setting night for Lindsey Sonderman.

The Cyclone senior earned wins in the 3000 and 1500 with meet-records times to help lead Harlan Community to a 2nd place finish overall with 109 points.

Coach Jenny Hamilton liked how her athletes performed.

“We had a really good meet,” said Hamilton. “This is our last meet where we'll probably have everybody competing. So, we kind of focused on that. Just take advantage of the opportunities given to you. We got no wind, beautiful sunshine, and we were proud of the way that the girls showed up and we're focused and ready to compete.”

Sonderman ran a 10:29.88 in the 3000M to top her own record she had previously set while running 4:47.54 in the 1500M broke a record from 1979.

Lindsey Sonderman also helped lead the Distance Med team of Abby Brockelman, Aubree Wagner, and Asya Sonderman to victory. Hamilton says she also expects Lindsey to build up and compete in some other races.

“Now we’re taking a look at some 800M. So, she hasn’t ran very many 800M this season and it's a little bit different race. You obviously got to run a little bit faster. So, just trying to figure out a pace for that first lap and how it's a little different than running a 3000M or a 1500M.”

Sonderman says she feels good with how her season has progressed.

“I had a little bit of an injury in the middle of the track season, so means a lot to be where I'm at right now.”

Ashlyn Rau finished 2nd behind Sonderman in both races. Rau talked about keeping pace with Sonderman.

“Yeah, that's my goal. To try to stay as close to Lindsey as I can for at least the first couple of laps and then try to keep that consistency.”

The Cyclones also got 3rd place finishes in the 4 by 800 and Shuttle Hurdle Relay.

Treynor won with 144, getting wins from Delaney Mathews in the Discus and Shot put, Stella Sornson in the Long Jump, Rylee Hemmingsen in the 100 hurdles, Madalyn Kerkman in the 800 and taking the Shuttle Hurdle relay. Riverside finished 3rd.
