Harlan Community Track Sending Several to Blue Oval For State Run –

(5-14-22) – State track and field qualifying finally official after last night’s make-up meets. Gunner Schmitz of Harlan Community will go to the Blue Oval next week, receiving an at-large bid in the shot put for the Cyclone boys. He joins teammate Jameson Bieker in the event and Will Neuharth will run in the 200M and the 100M dash achieving the best time in the Class 3A in the later with a time of 10.81 seconds. Coach Sam Brummer was proud of Neuharth’s effort to reach state.

"With Aiden (Hall) not being there, it was his time to shine," Brummer told KNOD Sports Friday. "He definitely stepped up. We don't have a ton of seniors. We only have three. Our junior class is kind of our de facto senior class so we're really excited about them, too, moving forward."

Cyclone girls freshman Abby Broeckelman just made the cut for the 400M hurdles. Coach Jenny Hamilton hopes her team will continue their consistency at state.

"They have every reason to feel confident going into this state meet," said Hamilton in an interview with KNOD Sports Friday. "So there's not much they need to change. We just want them to compete and if they do that the times and places will take care of themselves."

Iowa High School State Track Meet will start on Thursday from Drake University in Des Moines. KNOD will have reports throughout each day of the event.
