Hawkeyes Fall to GVC in Class 1A Semifinals Behind Sanderson's 41 -

(3-8-23) – The Thunder clapped loud at the Well Wednesday.

Josh Sanderson set the pace, scoring 25 of his game-high 41 pts in the 1st qtr, as West Harrison fell to Grand View Christian 68-50 in the semifinals of the Class 1A Boys' Basketball Tournament.

Hawkeyes Coach Rowdy Evans said they had no answers for Sanderson early.

"I don't even know how to explain how hot he was," Evans told KNOD Sports after the game. "I don't know if I've ever seen anybody make that many shots in the first half where we had one or two guys in his face to whole time."

West Harrison put on a valiant 3rd quarter comeback. Down by 32 early on, the Hawkeyes would cut their deficit to 11 by driving hard to the basket.

"I just hope people realize that we came here and we played hard the whole time. It may not have been pretty that first half, but we still played hard and that's the impression we want to leave."

Mason McIntosh had 10 pts and 8 rebounds. He hopes the efforts of this team over the past couple of seasons will be an influence on West Harrison's younger generation.

"It's just big for the community. For everyone. All those kids that could see that this can happen to a small school that we have. It's just good. It's just good for everyone. The community loves it and we love it. It'll last a lifetime."

Sage Evans finished with 17 pts and 9 boards while Koleson Evans had 11 pts in their final games of their high school career.

West Harrison ends their historic season with a record of 24-2.
