HC Boys’ Get Over Carroll in Osborn’s Final Regular Season Game, 62-56 –

(2-20-25) – Another win in a legendary career.

Harlan Community boys’ got a victory for Coach Mitch Osborn in the final regular season game of his career, rallying to beat Carroll 62-56 on Thursday.

“I thought we did a fantastic job,” Osborn told KNOD Sports. “Each and everybody really contributed and it was a great win.”

The game was tight overall with Harlan Community trailing by 4 after one quarter before taking a 2-pt lead at halftime. The game was tied in 4th before the Cyclones went on a 10-0 run to lock the win up.

Osborn like how his team responded after getting down by 8 early in the 4th.

“We called timeout and the guys responded very, very well and we went on an 8-0 run to tie the game. The key bucket there, Weston Reisz hit a three that got us charged up and going and then Kobe (Klaassen) pulls up with a three and so it was just back and forth then.”

Dallas McDowell hit four clutch free throws to ice the game late. He finished with 14 pts overall. Klaassen had a game-high 25 pts.

Osborn likes how his team played in this recent stretch when they’ve now won 3 of their last 4 games.

“It’s very rewarding to see us peeking at the right time.”

It was the teacher beating the student as Osborn got the win over former player & Carroll Coach Randy Bissen, who played for his Cyclone teams from ’97 to ‘01.

Osborn says this season has been emotional for him and is proud of how his team has played since he another this would be his final season last month.

“The guys have really responded. I told them last night and I said, ‘Hey, you've seen a grown man cry more with this the end of this year, I've been pretty emotional. It's been pretty emotional for me, but to see how hard they're playing and what they're doing and they're giving it everything they got, I'm coaching them hard and they're playing hard.”

Osborn announced to the team on January 27th that he would be retiring after the season. His final postseason run begins on Monday as Harlan Community travels to face Hawkeye 10 nemesis Glenwood in the Class 3A-District quarterfinals.
